Fast for 2 hours before receiving Communion

The point of the old midnight pre-communion fast was to prepare ahead of time, and so to elongate the Mass. We were forced to start thinking about Mass and start preparing for it the day before. It took real commitment to fast from coffee, breakfast, and even water so one could go to Communion Sunday morning. Daily Communion really meant something. But 1 hour doesn’t really do the same thing. It’s so short we don’t even think about it. But the hour fast isn’t the goal, it’s the minimum. Let’s double our fast. It might mean waking up earlier, it might mean, waiting until after Mass for the feast, but the sacrifice helps us to enter into the Sacrifice! If you can, start unplugging from other distractions two hours prior as well. (NOTE: Coffee is still just one hour.)
