Only receive Holy Communion in the State of Grace

Taking Holy Communion in the State of Mortal sin is the gravest sin we can commit against Christ. The saints liken it to the soldiers who literally crucified him. And yet how often do we commit it out of pride, shame, or fear. Yes, it hurts Christ, but it hurts us too. The life of grace is not binary, as if you are either in a State of Grace or out of it. It is a relationship. You are either closer to God or farther away from him. When make a sacrilegious Communion, we not only put ourselves farther away from his Grace, but we numb ourselves to the grace we do receive when we are in the State of Grace.
